Principal’s Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora! This week we again took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) an event which is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools and many other places around Australia and New Zealand and aims to promote the value of reading. I was lucky enough to read this year’s book, Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas by Lucinda Gifford, to the children in the Library at lunchtime. A great book!

Music Groups Report 🎼

by Eugenie Middleton

It was so wonderful to be connected to so many amazing musicians at Milford School throughout the week in class lessons, but also on Friday with the extension music groups. All the children remembered their music, instruments and change of location - what great thinking skills! Some children were seen sprinting across the courts because they were so excited AND we sounded fantastic, even after such a huge break.

Room 10 Artwork

by Charlotte Barrance

Year 4 students in Room 10 have been busy creating Window Into My Lockdown Art. The Art lesson encouraged students to share the ideas, feelings, and stories communicated by their own and others’ objects and images from their personal lockdown experiences. First we began by brainstorming all of the things that helped to keep us entertained during the lockdown period. We were challenged to come up with at least 10. Then we designed a logo or symbol to represent each aspect of our lockdown. We had a lot of fun talking to each other about our experiences and comparing and contrasting the things that were similar and different to one another. These are some of our finished artworks.

The Resilience Project - The Hive

by Nicole Brown

As part of the Resilience Project, we were reflecting on things that we are thankful for in The Hive this week. There were so many lovely and thoughtful things that we are grateful and thankful for but we made a short list of the ones that we thought were most important. We talked about how it is so important that we share the things that we are thankful for every day so that we show our appreciation for those people and things.

Room 14 students had a great return back to school last week. We welcomed 2 new students; Joaquin Murray and Aroha Smith-McDaniel, as well as our new Learning Assistant, Ashleigh Allen. We were all excited to see the new furniture in our classroom and after some learning, we enjoyed some time in the sun on the playground.

Classroom music:

by Eugenie Middleton

In classroom music we have had so much fun over the last two weeks learning body percussion, cup songs, ukulele, chime bars, and xylophones. It has been tricky not singing, but humming seems to work! Our focus is about connection - music connected so many people all around the world and in New Zealand during lockdown! Some inspiring youtube clips illustrate this. We will be composing our own songs about lockdown and connection.

Be Prepared on rainy days!

by Melanie Dixon

Wet days mean more traffic and less visibility. Extra care and patience is needed when driving… and parking. Use your lights, bring an umbrella and be prepared to walk to pick up your children. Better to catch a few raindrops than collect a car.!

Otakau Road Entrance Gate

by Sara Baker

We have noticed an increasing number of adults cutting across the cul de sac end of Otakau Road with children in tow, instead of using the footpath. Please do use the footpath, to show safe road behaviour to your children. It takes a very little time longer, but shows children that they need to stay safe. Children can't process when it is safe to walk on a road when it is so busy. Thank you!
