In this issue we discuss the upcoming NZEI Paid Union Meetings (PUMs), give a bouquet regarding school uniforms... and a challenge for our Dads.

On the 27 of February T@TT visited the Buried Treasure Exhibition that was set up by the Canterbury University in the Teece Gallery at the Arts Centre. As part of our learning, we also went across the road to the Canterbury Museum.

As part of our inquiry “We are responsible for our safety” Team Magma students have been learning about the concept of responsibility and what that means. To do this they were given the challenge of looking after their very own raw egg for four days and nights. The students in Room 4 were asked to reflect on this task and here are a few of their thoughts…

The first William Pike Challenge Award activity took place on Saturday 24 February, where the tamariki walked from Diamond Harbour to the highest point in Banks Peninsula. Written with Katherine B.

Room 1 and 2 visited the Christchurch Art Gallery. We looked at shapes and patterns in Maori art works and sculptures. We then created our own shape and pattern panels which can be seen in our classrooms. We had a fantastic day!

This year we moved away from the usual Sumner School Pool and instead held our Swimming Sports at the new venue of the Norman Kirk Memorial Pool - more commonly known as the Lyttelton Pool.

Tacking & jibing on a still, misty day didn't hold Hannah & Diego back this week...here are some photos from the Canterbury School's Sailing Regatta on Tuesday.

We are thrilled to announce that the memorial chair for our former teacher Mrs Judi Thawley is finished and looks AMAZING. Come and see it in the office. We think the gorgeous fabric reflects Judi's bubbly and vibrant personality.

On the last Saturday of February, Stella & Archie WB and Alex NC performed outside the community centre down at the Mt Pleasant Saturday Market.

The Canterbury Primary Schools Duathlon is for Years 5-8. Registrations close on March 15, and with only 4 places available per age group...spaces are limited! Register your interest NOW!

Mt Pleasant Oscar will be running on the Teacher Only Day - Friday 1 June 8.30-5.30. We will be staying onsite, baking, doing craft projects, competitions, watching a movie and doing the optional pizza lunch - $41 till 3pm and $45 till 5.30 pm.
