Week 10, Term 2.

A positive start to the last week of Term 2.

On Thursday, Live For Tomorrow - a student-led group aiming to decrease stigma and raise awareness about mental health - and 24/7 Youthwork put on an event for Years 7-13 during lunchtime.

On Thursday 1st July, 12 students went to Lincoln University for the Children's University Campus Experience. The children participated wonderfully in 4 activities throughout the day. It was a great experience and all the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and we look forward to having more students take part in Children's University next year.

Each week teachers nominate the Year 9 and 10 students they feel have demonstrated the school values.

For me, the two defining features of an Area School are that firstly, it takes students from Years 1 to 13 and secondly, has strong links to the local community.

The final major sporting event for Term 2 happened on Tuesday 6 July in Rangiora, the Rakahuri and Pegasus Zone Winter Tournament.

In ideal conditions about 400 tamariki from Oxford, Area, Swannanoa, West Eyreton and View Hill Schools participated in the Eyre Cluster sports event.

On Wednesday 30 June we had four students who competed in the Canterbury Primary Schools Cross Country Championship in the Rakahuri Zone team.

This year we have 7 students from Oxford Area School competing in Top of the South Island (TOSI) teams at the NZ Area Schools' Tournament.

We now have black trousers available as part of the senior girls' uniform.

As it is Plastic Free July the Years 4-6 team are doing an eco-friendly fundraiser to raise funds for our Years 4-6 camp at Glentui which will be held later in the year.

The Community Dental Service will be providing dental care for children enrolled with our service during the upcoming school holidays.
