Rototuna High Schools

KORERO FROM MIRANDA

Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,

You should receive your student’s first progress report for Wānanga Ako at the end of this week. This is intended to connect and spark conversations about learning at home and between home and school so we can work together to support your student’s success. As already mentioned, please contact your student’s Kaiarahi if you have any questions.

NZQA has confirmed our results for 2023. Despite ongoing interruptions last year with industrial action, changing NCEA requirements and working in spaces that were undergoing reconstruction, we aimed to ensure our young people had success gaining their NCEA certificates while also producing quality.

  • Overall attainment for 2023 (compared to national results):

We have continued our strong gains in Level 1 literacy.

In 2023, at Year 11, the number of students achieving literacy was 89% (Nationally = 82.9%)

In 2023, at Year 11, the number of students achieving numeracy was 75% (Nationally = 82.3%)

Year 12 with Level 2 Certificate = 81% (Nationally = 73%)

Year 13 with Level 2 Certificate = 93% (Nationally = 87%)

Year 13 with Level 3 Certificate = 69% (Nationally = 68%)

Year 13 with University Entrance = 51% (Nationally = 50%)

  • Deep learning - Merit endorsement and Excellence endorsement for Level 2 and 3 NCEA

(Endorsement requires a minimum of 50 credits at merit or higher for merit endorsement, or 50 credits at excellence for excellence endorsement)

Year 12 (Level 2) 16% @ Merit 7% @ Excellence

(Nationally 23.5% @ Merit 15% @ Excellence)

Year 13 (Level 3) 22%@ Merit 13.1%@ Excellence

(Nationally 26% @ Merit 13.6% @ Excellence)

As a school we will be continuing to work on growing our students' sense of belonging. We will also continue to work to provide your young person with experiences that deepen their understanding to be critical, creative and caring thinkers. These three ways of thinking are listed in the 2024 top 10 skills and dispositions valued by employers and tertiary institutions according to experts. I appreciated the opportunity at assemblies last week to share why deep learning is so important, setting the foundations from which to soar so our students can reach both their own academic and personal excellence.

Ngā mihi, best wishes for the rest of the term and a wonderful upcoming break over the Easter holidays
