Board of Trustees June 9

Board of Trustees  by Te Kura o Kirikiri Tatangi - Seatoun School

Following on from the excellent academic results that our children are achieving, the Board recently had the opportunity to explore with staff a number of curricular school reports for the library, health/sports, Enviro, KIVA (anti-bullying), languages and enrichment. These reports reveal the deep and wide reaching nature of the learning that occurs at Kirikiri Tatangi:Seatoun School.

In the "Enviro" space, our school is aiming to be a sustainable "Enviroschool". While this is something that the students participate in, it does have a wider community remit, especially in the context of global environmental issues. Ideally we all would participate to the extent that we can, for example, parents taking a moment to consider what is going into the school lunches in terms of plastic, considering minimising other waste or encouraging recycling. The more the kura becomes sustainable, the more our children can feel like they are taking some control over the way the world is heading.

Our KIVA program continues to show strong results for anti-bullying practices not only within our school, but also when compared with other schools. To learn to show respect and stand up for each other is important, and the school continues to provide an environment in which this can be accomplished.

The Board is also very proud that the school has successfully navigated an Education Review Office (ERO) visit, which took over a year of interaction with the Ministry. The kura acquitted itself admirably and we think that school is setting benchmarks of excellence in many areas. A big thank you to the staff and senior management for maintaining the consistent high standard that we have come to expect.

Finally, we note that there is a Board of Trustees election coming up this year in September - there will be further communications about this over the next month or so - so look out for that.
