Matthew Thang: Matthew entered the Generation Zero Art Competition and he won 3rd place for the 10 and under category. His artwork will be displayed at the upcoming exhibition. The exhibition will be at Te Auaha Gallery, 65 Dixon St, Te Aro from 14th April (5pm) to 18th April 5pm. We would like to invite the school to visit the exhibition and see the art there. The full details of the event are on the Generation Zero website here here and a Facebook event page here.

Robbie Wana: Some great news for Robbie, he has just been selected for Golf Wellington’s Talent Development Programme!

Isla Paul: Isla submitted a piece of writing to Toitoi last year at age 7 and had the tremendous honour of having it published in the Autumn edition. This is her work, titled:

  • The Beach
I went to the beach. I left my things on the nice warm sand and ran into the sea. It was glimmering. I dived into the waves. They felt nice and cold. I swam deeper and deeper. It got warmer the further I went. I swam back to shore, grabbed my bucket and collected some shells.
My mum was on the wharf and she told me to come and look down into the sea, so I did. There was a giant octopus! It was orange and it was trying to eat some crabs off a pole. I was a teeny-weeny bit scared and didn't go back in the water after that.

Having a piece of writing published in Toitoi is a wonderful achievement, and anyone between the ages of 5 and 18 years can submit writing or artwork on any topic. Many children submit work that is not chosen and this is the life for an author! The only certainty is for those who do not try.

Here is the link for submissions to the next Toitoi. The next deadline for submissions is June 30th. You can submit work yourself, with a parent, your teacher or with Mrs Bamber.
