Dear Parent and Caregivers

Another successful and enjoyable Sportsman of the Year Awards Dinner was held on the last Wednesday of Term 3 at the Russley Golf Club Function Centre.

Term 4 Monday – 12 October to Friday 11 December

At the end of Term 3 Year 13 Outdoor Education students went on a cycle adventure on the Alps2Ocean Cycle Tour.

October 3 and 4 saw the SBHS MTB Team competing in the South Island Secondary School’s Mountain Bike Championships.

Six Shirley boys and four Marian College girls departed on a two-week biannual Japan trip on 25 September.

Congratulations to two stars of this year’s 1st XV campaign, who were selected in the NZ Schools Rugby team recently, Brodie McAlister and Tom Christie.

Over the first week of the school holidays Mr Howell and Mr Grocott took the Senior A Basketball team to Palmerston North to participate in the National Tournament.

The Year 13 Geographers had a great practical experience at the end of Term 3 during their annual field trip to Queenstown. 

A group of 40 students and teachers (18 boys and 18 girls) recently returned from a three-week tour of France, happy but very tired. It was a busy time away with many hundreds of kilometres covered.

L Block was originally B Block but was given its new designation by Senior Master Ian Wilson late last century. In 1957 when the School first opened, B Block contained the original single classroom Library with books on loan from the National Library Service.

Since 2013 Shirley Boys' High School has distributed $146,000 in Red Cross funding to help ease the cost of learning for students whose families have been affected by the earthquakes.

Thank you to everyone who donated a can of food on Mufti Day last term. The City Mission came and collected a van full of food to restock their empty shelves.
