A special welcome to all new and returning students and families for another exciting year at Tahuna. The school year is well underway and our school programmes have begun well.

With the start of another school year and many students travelling to and from school it is timely to remind our school community to take care on the roads and footpaths around the school.

A little information regarding sport for the year alongside some upcoming sporting opportunities.

Last year the students of Tahuna were very fortunate to have hi vis vests donated from Rotary South. These were to help keep our students safe when riding to and from school.

Engaged and enthusiastic 7 students have had their first lessons this week. Hygiene and safety guidelines, Food Tech licences, pancakes, pizza design...great fun!

On Wednesday, Rooms 4 and 5 walked to the Rongo Stone at the Andy Bay junction, as part of the Parihaka topic.

An opportunity for girls to learn new skills and drills for cricket. A lot of fun, after school, and a chance to meet new people!

In the first week of school all Year 8 students attended a pre Camp first aid course with Kirsty Sutherland from St Johns.

Outdoor Education provides an opportunity to enhance the wellbeing of individuals, groups and communities by involving them in activities that foster adventure and challenge.

A couple of weekends ago I played in the Otago Maori Men's Golf Tournament at St Clair. I played one round of 18 holes and shot 80 off the mens tees I came first overall and won an amazing trophy. This is the first time a school pupil has won. This weekend I'm playing in another competition and hope to have another great round.

In Hard Materials we have had a very exciting start to the year.

Ni hao! Our Mandarin Language Assistants have arrived and are currently in our school undergoing training. They are loving Dunedin and are very excited to be working alongside our students here at Tahuna and within the Otakou Mandarin Cluster.

The Boys cricket team headed down to Bayfield park to take on Fairfield and John Mcglashan in the first round of the NZC Cup on Tuesday.

The year has started off with a bang in the music room where the year 8 African Drumming unit is a hit with most students, if not with the administration in the offices across from us.

It's that time of the year for parents who are working with children at school or on camp to be police vetted. Here at Tahuna all parents who assist on an overnight camp or who work alone with our children will be police vetted in line with the ministry’s recommendations.

Scattegories, Upwords, The Game Of Awesome, 5 Second Rule, Articulate, Charades, Story Cubes, Scrabble & Trivial Pursuit just to name a few……..

These tamariki have stepped up to take on the role of leading our school in signing the national anthem during Friday assemblies. There is always space for more keen students.

With a big season ahead we have a MASSIVE squad representing Tahuna Intermediate and battling it out down at the Edgar Centre every Tuesday.
