Attendance

The Ministry of Education has set nationwide attendance targets to increase student attendance. At the end of last year only half of NZ students attended school for 90% or more of the days (9 days out of 10).

These rates are a real concern, as attendance at school is vital for students to make progress with their learning and develop connections with their classmates.

We are also keen to see our own attendance levels improve, and as part of our efforts we will share our termly attendance results with our school community.

At Te Ao Mārama our attendance for Term 4, 2024 was:

We would really like to see these figures improve, and unless your child is sick, please ensure they attend school. We also appreciate that many of our families head overseas to visit family, and while we understand the reasons for this, it is important to understand that low attendance really does affect their education.

We will continue to share our attendance information, and our aim is to work closely with our whānau to try and lift our rates as high as we possibly can.

We will also be making contact with families when we have concerns about attendance levels, as part of the Ministry’s policies.
