National Jiu-Jitsu Competition

Last weekend members from the local MMA Waitomo Club traveled to Levin to compete in a National Jiu-Jitsu Competition.

Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art based on ground fighting. The goal is to find a joint lock or choke hold to make the opponent 'tap out' - known as a submission.

Dakota Terure in 9R competed in the competition, she only began Jiu-Jitsu three months ago and won a silver medal in her class. 

Hamish Woodney won gold in his weight class, and silver in adults weight class. Ka mau te wehi Dakota and Hamish!
