At Marshland School Te Rito Harakeke, we want to provide and follow clear and consistent behavioural expectations of our students. As kaimahi, the most important behaviour strategy is knowing our ākonga and forming appropriate, positive relationships with them.

Marshland Primary Te Rito Harakeke is a PB4L school. PB4L stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning and is a positive, proactive, schoolwide organisational framework for behaviour.

We acknowledge and recognise students who demonstrate and uphold our school values through our positive behaviour model by acting in a way that demonstrates our MANA School Values and allows others to learn.

In the first instance, Marshland School has a range of strength-based approaches that are part of our curriculum. Our ākonga, kaimahi and whānau are encouraged to live and act according to our Marshland MANA school values: Manaakitanga (Respect and Care), Ako (Learner), Ngatahi (Together), Aumangea (Resilience)

At Te Rito Harakeke - Marshland School, our Positive Behaviour Support Plan and Procedures Plan aligns closely with the principles of Restorative Practice. This is a relational approach to managing school life grounded in the beliefs about equality, dignity, mana and the potential of all people.

Te Rito Harakeke - Marshland School aims to create a safe physical and emotional environment and takes all reasonable steps to eliminate bullying within our school community. Our approach to bullying is in keeping with the primary board objectives outlined in the Education and Training Act 2020 (s.127).

Bullying occurs in every school and in every country. It is all too often part of the way young people interact in our society. No parent can be confident that their child will never bully or be bullied.

All breaches considered to relate to the Harmful Communications Act, 2015. The parents of students who have identified a breach that reflects the 10 principles of the Harmful Communications Act, 2015 will be referred to Netsafe: netsafe.org.nz to report
