Congratulations to our 2017 Leadership team, announced at last week’s Assembly.

It’s all 'on' again! The gates are open. Lessons are well underway. Friendships and acquaintances are renewed. And our wider co-curricular activity is gathering steam. We welcome boys and families new to Timaru Boys' and those of you returning for another year. The full vitality and diversity of TBHS is back.

I was extremely fortunate to have been selected to represent Timaru Boys’ High School at a unique seminar held in Israel during the month of January.

The Board of Trustees welcomes new and returning families to Timaru Boys’ High School in what is by now proving to be an extremely busy year. 

While I think back to November when I wrote my contribution to the November newsletter, I can’t help thinking about events outside the Old Boys’ Association such as being woken up just after midnight on 14 November feeling that something violent was happening. 

The Year 11 induction programme is a six week programme designed to support Year 11 boys as they make the transition into the senior school.  It is seen as a natural follow-on from the Rite Journey and gives the boys the skills and understanding of what it means to be a senior at TBHS.

Once again, we saw 25 of our top young leaders within the school undertake their week of Peer Support Leadership training up at John Scott Lodge (situated in the Godley Valley) one week before school commenced.

Due to feedback from staff, the POWER SCORE system has been slightly adapted for 2017. The following criteria is used to interpret the averages:

Timaru Boys’ High School runs a highly regarded Hospitality Course from our Food Technology Department.

All students have had individual and class photographs taken.

Extremely hot conditions confronted students at the Timaru Boys’ High School Athletics day. This took its toll on the students but they battled through with some impressive performances.

Last week’s annual Swimming Sports produced some outstanding results from our top swimmers.

Tennis came to the party and stopped the clean sweep in the summer interschool between Timaru Boys’ High School and Otago Boys’ held in Timaru.

Timaru Boys’ High has qualified for the South Island tennis finals with a win in the Aoraki Tennis. 

Warmest congratulations go out to our Rowing boys who have had an extremely successful season to date. 

At the South Island Colgate Games in Invercargill in January, Quinn Motley won the 13yo Boys Discus event with a throw of 43.32 metres. 

The planning for the 2017 Rugby season is well underway. It promises to be another great year with numbers looking on par with last year. 

Auditions for the 2017 combined Production Back to the 80s have taken place over the last fortnight. Produced this year by Timaru Girls’ High School, this is a jukebox musical featuring pop songs from the 1980s.
