Principal's Word - Term 1 Week 3

Chisholm House - winners of the House Spirit Award for the second year running!  by Ashleigh Nicolson

Kia ora Everyone!

For me, this week has been dominated with press and media stories. I hope you saw the story in the Timaru Courier this week about our roll growth! A fantastic achievement and we had more enrolments this week too! Woohoo! If you didn't see the article you can click on this link to read it.  We also get a mention on today's Stuff website about school rolls in general in South Canterbury. Click here to read that article. Keep an eye out for the Latitude magazine that will also feature our school and both the Timaru Courier and Oamaru Mail will have their usual features on our Head Students coming soon.

On Tuesday we held our senior Meet and Greet evening, and, whilst we didn't get huge numbers of parents, the ones who came got lots of information about NCEA changes and had an opportunity to meet all of our new and existing staff.

On Wednesday, we had Mayor Rowley visit us with Lisa Dobson from the Mayor's taskforce for jobs and Kelly Dann from Farmlands. They stopped by to donate $7000 worth of PPE gear supplied by Farmlands and paid for by the Mayors task fund for our senior Agriculture students. We are incredibly grateful for all of the support from our amazing community. We're sure that the gear will get good use as we ramp up our practical agriculture programme over at the Waimate racecourse grounds.

Yesterday, we held our swimming sports event at the pool. I LOVE this day. It's our first House event and the students certainly showed their house spirit, with Chisholm winning the House spirit competition. It was a difficult decision, but they had the numbers! Grant came a very close second. We'll post the swimming results very soon!

Today we had our first whole school assembly and presented our Prefect blazers. A proud moment for all involved.

And if that wasn't enough action for one week, tomorrow I'm heading off to Kurow to the regional heats of the Junior Young Farmers competition. I'm sure that we'll have a great day and with the calibre of our students, I'm hopeful that we might get some teams in the finals being held in Hamilton later in the year. Fingers crossed!

Enjoy your weekend,

Jo
