PCT CHALLENGE

    by Nicole Cooney

Last Friday, four of our Year 8 athletes travelled to Timaru with Constable Bryan for the annual Primary Schools PCT (Police Competency Test) Challenge. The team competed against other Year 7 and 8 teams from around South Canterbury, attempting to be the fastest over the course which is almost identical to the test that Police Officers must do themselves.

Our WHS team of Kadin Davis, Fergus Lane, Keira Mehrtens and Abby Swatridge worked as a true team and performed outstandingly, placing 2nd overall. Congratulations!

Here are their thoughts of the day:

What was it like going up to Timaru in the Police car?

Very exciting and cool getting to see all of the gear that is in the police car. I especially enjoyed Constable Bryan showing us how his speed radar works.

What was the most challenging part of the course?

Climbing over the wall was the hardest challenge, but with the help of teamwork we made it over easily.

Do you think the training sessions with Constable Bryan helped your performance on the day? How/why?

Yes, it was very helpful to get to know how high and low things were on the day. We also trained on everything much higher and harder so on the day we could jump/crawl things easier.

What else did you get to experience while you were up there?

How to walk on a line while wearing drunk goggles and ways to jump a fence much easier.
