Gazette: New Bonus Publication Style

New Homepage Widgets

3 new Widgets for Hail Homepage users and a couple of smaller updates for all... (Rejoice all you Instagrammers ).
   New Hail Homepage Widgets

The Hail Homepage just keeps getting smarter, more useful and easier to keep up-to-date. Read on for details of the new widgets.

3 New Homepage Widgets

  • You can now easily add 4 Promo Blocks to your Hail Homepage to highlight and link to key Articles, Publications and/or URLs. Simply give each Promo Block a label with a custom icon, a link and select a photo from the Image browser. (This widget is designed to sit alongside the new Facebook or Twitter Feed widget).
  • Adding an auto-updating Facebook or Twitter Feed is now a snap. Simply add the link to your Facebook page or Twitter profile and Hail will do the rest. (This widget is designed to sit alongside the 4 Promo Blocks on the Homepage).
  • Display a full-width background Video Block near the bottom of your Hail Homepage by simply selecting a YouTube or Vimeo clip from the video browser and edit the Title and Description as needed.

You can check out examples of the above widgets, as well as the earlier ones, on our Homepage demo site — www.hail.school.

Translate Widget Update

The Translate widget has been incredibly well received and we're very happy to see so many organisations adding it to their Newsletters, Magazines, Blogs, Yearbooks and Homepages. And although it adds a sticky banner to the top of the page which allows you to remove any translations, we heard from some people that they missed it.

So to make sure no one gets stuck when testing different languages the Translate widget now has a 'Back to original language' button which appears right under your chosen flags and the language dropdown selector.

Instagram Added to Social Settings, Google+ Gone

Google recently announced that they're shutting down Google+. See the following article for details...

Meet the educators and gamers mourning the death of Google+ — Quartz

As one social network dies there's always another to rising to take its place. Lately, we've seen many Hail organisations and their community members getting serious about Instagram. So although Instagram still doesn't allow services like Hail to post images to it, we have now added Instagram to Hail's settings.

Just pop your Instagram profile's URL into there and Hail will add an Instagram icon and link across your Publication and Homepage headers. Giving it pride of place alongside Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and allowing your community to check out and subscribe to all your lovely Instas .
