Gazette: New Bonus Publication Style

Case Study: Wild Dunedin

Wild Dunedin, an annual festival held in April, encourages locals and visitors to have greater involvement and understanding of our wildlife and special places within the City of Dunedin Boundary. The festival has grown from 3,000 to 16,000 audience participation over 4 years.

It was fortunate that we met with Rebecca Twemlow on our first year setting up our festival because our connection with Hail has given us a clean and professional look right from the start.

We didn’t have the time or funds in 2016 to set up a standard website as we had to deliver our inaugural festival within 3 months. Hail’s home webpage was quick and easy to set up to display our stories that we shared to Facebook and Twitter. Over time we have produced podcast blogs, a web series blog and newsletters that we send to our subscribers from Hail’s content management programme.

The biggest advantage of subscribing to Hail has been using the Yearbook publication to create an online programme for the festival. We produce a print programme but the online version through the use of tags can point people to events they are particularly interested in or filter for a particular day of the festival. Online too we can add in more information than in our printed programme and through links can connect people directly to booking tickets. An online programme also means more people can get access to the festival both within Dunedin and outside via social media.

We have had excellent feedback from our audience on the professional look of our articles, magazine and online programme.

What we really appreciate is the continuous development that Hail has undertaken on improving the look and additions to articles, e.g. this year we can incorporate photographs throughout the body of the article which assists us to better explain or sell the event or stories.

The usability and navigation of our festival programme has improved over the past four festivals. This has been made possible by Hail listening to our comments and making changes to what was originally designed for a school yearbook but now we can say with confidence that Hail is an excellent tool for producing a festival programme.

We are proud that Hail was developed in the South Island and really appreciate the support the company has given to our festival right from the start.
