From April 4th to April 6th a number of our Pasifika students participated and competed as part of the inaugural Tupaia Tapasa Quest held at the University of Waikato.

"Ka mua, ka muri" is a whakatauki that many will know means "walking backwards into the future" - the idea that we should look to the past to inform the future. It is a fitting whakatauki for marking the end of Term 1.

Zarah Rattray has been selected to represent New Zealand in the 2024 Oceania Athletics Championships.

A group of Year 11 Drama students won the Regional Sheilah Winn Shakespeare in Schools Competition and head to the Nationals in Wellington in June to represent Waikato.

Our competitive swimmers hit the pool on the 29th of February! The weather was clear and sunny and swimmers competed in a variety of races throughout the morning.

All three NCEA level targets set for 2023 were highly aspirational, particularly because 2022 results reflected the addition of learning recognition credits as a result of disruptions in learning due to Covid. While we have not achieved our targets, we are above the national average.

Our Board of Trustees have formulated a strategic plan based on feedback from students, staff and whānau.

On the 14th of February we hosted the Hamilton Girls' High Athletics Day at Porritt Stadium, and the House spirit was on FIRE this year! There was huge participation in House events as well as in competitive track and field events.

Our Waka Ama team had a great campaign at nationals, with some excellent results.

On February 9th our Executive Council had the pleasure of working with the prefects to build and strengthen their leadership skills.

Alise Goudswaard represented Hamilton Girls' High School at the NZSS White Water Kayaking Championships in Kawarau from the 22-26th March.

March 8th is such an important day for us to celebrate - especially being an all-girls school.

The North Island Athletics Championships were held in Palmerston North on the 6th and 7th of April.

Our Senior Premier Water Polo team attended NISS in Auckland.

On 6 March, Pasifika students at Girls' High met together for their first assembly of the year.

On 16th March, 19 rowers and 4 coxswains travelled from Hamilton to Twizel to compete in the 2024 AON Maadi Regatta, NZ’s largest rowing regatta and the National Championships for school rowing.

An official welcome to all new International students who have chosen to study in the Waikato was held at The Pā at the University of Waikato. Students from about 20 schools were represented.

On Monday 25th March the Level 1 Active Wellbeing class went on a haerenga to Taupiri Maunga.

On the 11th March, our Premier Basketball (3x3), Futsal, Rugby 7s (Juniors), Touch and Volleyball teams travelled to Tauranga to compete in the Summer Sports Exchange.

On Sunday 17th March I had the pleasure of driving nine very excited girls to Wellington for the 2024 Futsal Nationals.

It was with a lot of nervous excitement that the first Hui Māori or assembly for all senior Māori students was held earlier this month.

On Wednesday 21st March, three Geography students represented the school at the New Zealand Planning Institute Seminar at Claudelands Arena.

On Friday 1st March, Level 3 Geography travelled to Auckland City to explore the hustle and bustle of Queen Street and nearby lanes and parks.

From the 18th to 22nd of March 2024, the HGHS volleyball team joined over 190 teams at the CET Arena in Palmerston North to compete in the 54th New Zealand Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships. Coming out on top of the Waikato Regional Senior Champs the week before, the girls were buzzing and ready to rumble, despite some of the team being out with injuries. This gave us the opportunity to have some of the juniors along for support as we entered a pool with some highly competitive teams.

On the 18th and 19th of March, our top HGHS equestrian team members competed at Takapoto Estate Show Jumping for the Pegasus Cup.

On Thursday 7th March Level 2 APO students embarked on an overnight tramp up Mount Pirongia.

All three 2AWE classes attended a camp in Week 7 at Dickey Flat in the Karangahake Gorge.

Over the summer break, our 2024 Head Girl, Paige McOnie, Deputy Head Girl, Sina Onesemo Fa’ataualofa Toa, and Hostel Head Girl, Kaytlen Tamatea-Kepa, had the opportunity to attend the International Coalition of Girls' Schools Student Leadership Conference in Sydney, Australia.

On Sunday the 17th of March,17 International students from Hamilton Girls' High School and 24 from Sacred Heart Girls' College traveled to Mount Maunganui.

On the 23rd of February, our Level 1, 2, and 3 Pasifika Studies classes had the wonderful opportunity to meet a few members of the Polynesian Panthers at the University of Waikato.

The WSS Show Jumping was held at Leamington Pony Club grounds and was very competitive.
