Kia ora koutou. Welcome back to the last newsletter of Term 2. The cold, wet weather is upon us, but the holidays are nearly here!

Kia Ora Koutou whānau of Tīeke Kāhui. What a busy term we have had. We have had a lot of trips and events, but we are getting close to the school holidays.

Kia Ora, Talofa, Malo E Lelei, Kia Orana, Kamusta, Hei. Welcome to an even chillier side of Term 2 maybe even laced with a little bit of snow!

The University of Canterbury along with the EU offered an opportunity for students to attend a European Union - Climate change and Human Rights Challenge on 11/12 June 2021. Five students from Hornby High School, Ella, Natasha, Nidhi, Nathan (Year 12), and Alyana (Year 13) took up the challenge along with about 170 students from other schools.

On the 14/15 May 2021 the Level 3 Geography students took part in the annual geography trip to Kaikoura. This trip is to give the students a hands-on experience of collecting primary data in a natural environment.

On the 23 June, the 2021 Casio Calculator Competition for Year 11 students was held at Hagley Community College. Four of our outstanding students took part in the team competition where there were four rounds, each with a set time limit.

Congratulations to Nishitha (Year 9) for her selection to represent New Zealand at the Australian 13u Team Championships held at KDV Academy, Carrara, Gold Coast. We wish you all the best Nishitha and hope all goes well for you.

Policies being reviewed Term 2: Reporting to parents on student achievement.

Stars-opoly is a community adventure event held at Hornby High School and we are looking for amazing community organisations to be involved.

The Project K Community Challenge is an opportunity where the students are encouraged to think about what their community needs for the future. They then explore and access resources and opportunities locally available.

This is my first year being a Stars Mentor. I began going to Stars around the start of Term 2 and so far the experience has been great.

We wish to remind all members of our school community that we are committed to being a smokefree school, which includes being a vapefree school.

School Office Hours are Monday – Friday, 8am – 3.30pm

The App can be used to access the parent portal, check the daily notices, check attendance and is the quickest and easiest way to notify us of an absence.

The Community Dental Service will be providing dental care for children enrolled with our service during the upcoming school holidays. The clinics will offer check-ups, treatment and relief of pain sessions by appointment only.

Your local dance school, Studio One Performing Arts is currently giving Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Acro lessons in your area.
