Year 5 & 6 Getting Started with Epro8: A Lesson in Creativity and Collaboration

The Epro8 program is designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork skills through hands-on challenges and problem-solving activities.

What is Epro8?

Epro8 is an innovative educational tool that combines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) principles with teamwork and creativity. The equipment consists of a variety of components, including motors, sensors, gears, and building materials, allowing students to design and build their own inventions.

The First Lesson:

During their first session with the Epro8 equipment, students were tasked with the challenge of getting started by familiarising themselves with the components and exploring their potential uses. Students enthusiastically dove into the getting started activity, eager to unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Highlights of the Lesson:

  • Teamwork in Action: Students worked collaboratively in small teams, sharing ideas and pooling their strengths to tackle the challenges presented by the Epro8 equipment. It was inspiring to see them communicate effectively, compromise, and support one another throughout the process. "We like like how everyone worked together, got a turn and helped each other out"!

  • Critical Thinking: As students experimented with different configurations and designs, they were encouraged to think critically about the principles of engineering and physics underlying their creations. They embraced the opportunity to troubleshoot issues, and iterate on their designs. "It was engaging and make you concentrate and problem solve".

Looking Ahead: Unleashing Creativity

From simple machines to complex contraptions, our students' imaginations will run wild as they bring their ideas to life using the Epro8 equipment. Each team put their unique spin on the challenges, resulting in a diverse array of innovative solutions.

This term, each class will have two more half days of STEM to tackle increasingly complex challenges and develop their STEM skills in the process.

Get Involved:

We encourage parents to support their children's learning by engaging them in conversations about their experiences with Epro8. Ask them about the challenges they faced, their solutions, and the lessons they learned along the way. Your interest and encouragement can make a world of difference in fostering their enthusiasm for STEM education.

Stay Tuned:

Be sure to stay tuned for future updates on our Year 5 and 6 Epro8 team's adventures. We have some challenges coming up where students will have the opportunity to compete against teams from other schools.
