Acting Principal's Message

by Sara Baker

VUCA - what are we facing in the world today? After a disruptive start to the term, I have been reflecting on the fact that none of us knows what will come in the future for our children. I see the children collaborating in their learning; talking, comparing, contrasting, suggesting etc, and I wonder what challenges lie ahead for them in years to come.

Year 1 Learner Profile certificates

by Beverley Smith

The Learner Profile Attribute that we have been focussing on this week, is being Principled. This means that we are honest and always tell the truth. It also means that we know what to do, and we do the right thing without having to be told. You can assist your child at home by praising them when they show that they are being principled. This week the Principled certificates were awarded to Arya and Jason (Room 17), Leon and Mateo (Room 16), Ollie and Aria (Room 15), Romeo and Grace (Room 14). Well done and congratulations to these learners.

In Literacy we have been learning that all letters have names and sounds. This week we learned the short sounds for the 5 vowels. They are /a/ as in apple, /e/ as in egg, /i/ itchy, /o/octopus, /u/ as in up. We made vowel books to help us remember the short vowel sounds.

Exploring, inquiring and learning through water play

by Hana Rhee

With the weather heating up, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore. The Year 1's had the chance to explore water play as part of Learning through Play. Water play activities help to develop and strengthen children’s gross and fine motor skills. Children enhance their gross motor skills, coordination and physical fitness through lifting, pouring, carrying, running and splashing, while actions such as squeezing help to develop the small muscles in a child’s hands. Water play can also be used to develop children’s literacy and numeracy, such as counting how many buckets of water it takes to fill a tub, or using water and a brush to write and draw.

Gardening Club Update

by Iris Leng

It was finally potato harvesting time! Many returning members of the Gardening Club remembered planting the seed potatoes last year into the green buckets. After patiently waiting for these potatoes to grow, it was finally time to tip the bucket and harvest! We were excited to find a big crop this year, every member of the Gardening Club and Compost Club got to take home a potato or two (or 3-4 mini ones). Hope you and your families have enjoyed sharing these at your dinner table.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

by Sara Baker

Please double-check check your child has their own school uniform, and that it is clearly named. We try to make sure lost items go back to their owners and parents are checking the lost property box outside the office, but some items may have been picked up by the wrong person. And if you have bought items from the 2nd hand sale, please be sure to rename them with your child's name so it can be returned to them.Thank you!
