Talking to your kids about the flood and cyclone

by Admin

We have been involved in the Sunnynook Flood Response and we understand many families in Milford are also affected by the Jan 27th Floods. Families tell us the recent flood and cyclone have unsettled their children and they have lots of curly questions. We have invited Jenny Hale, Senior Parenting Coach to provide parents tips about how parents can talk to their children after these natural disasters to calm and support them through this time.

Gardening Club Update

by Iris Leng

We were so glad for a sunny lunchtime this Thursday, and keen gardeners returned to the school garden to do some work. We had to do lots of tidying up of the vegetable patches, carefully digging out the roots of the weeds. We also watered our herbs and tomatoes. (We didn't realise we are going to get some rain later this week!)

Year 1 Learner Profile certificates

by Beverley Smith

The Learner Profile Attribute that we are focussing on the next two weeks, is being a Communicator. This means that we can share our ideas by speaking clearly. Being a good communicator also means that we listen respectfully to others when they share their ideas. You can assist your child at home to develop this skill by ensuring they always speak in a clear, audible voice, and they always look at the person who is talking to them. This week the Communicator certificates were awarded to Letty and Ted (Room 17), Maia and Isabel (Room 16), Clementine, Flora and Millie (Room 15), Leesa and Reon (Room 14). Well done and congratulations to these learners.

Exploring our Tūrangawaewae

by Ellen von Collas

Across the Year 3 classes, we have been exploring our Tūrangawaewae. This is a Māori concept which translates as A Place to Stand. By sharing items from home that show our connections to our whānau (family), our ancestors (tīpuna) and the geographical features of the country we connect to, we are able to develop a deeper confidence in ourselves and make connections with others.
