59 days to Christmas... term 4 is traditionally extremely busy… full of fun events as we head in to Christmas, kicking off with our Year 3-8 Athletics Day at Hansen Park in Opawa this week.

The Year 8 PYP Exhibition is about exploring issues and taking action. On Friday 3 November, our school and community whānau are invited to a showcase of Year 8 learning.

The new and improved location of Hansen Park played host to this year’s Mt Pleasant School Athletics event. Conditions were virtually ideal on the day and it proved a wonderfully unique and athletics specific venue, which I’d imagine would have been an exciting experience for many.

Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) New Zealand has the highest melanoma incidence in the world. Episodes of sunburn (even just one), caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) in childhood and adolescence, have been shown to cause skin damage and to increase the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers later in life. Overexposure to UVR can also cause eye damage, and can suppress the proper functioning of the immune system.

We are holding a PINK Mufti Day on Friday 3rd November to raise funds for the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation....so bring along a donation & wear something pink! Pink hair ribbons, pink shoelaces, pink wigs, pink face paint, pink tutus, pink onesies, pink hats...pink, pink, pink!

Thursday 9 November (afternoon) We are hoping to form a panel of parents involved in business or innovation to answer questions posed by the students on attitudes, and ways of working that help people to succeed in their ventures. Science Alive visited Team Magma last week and the children learnt all about renewable energy. This connected nicely with our inquiry about clean air when we learnt about how burning fuels can pollute the air. Room 4 have written about what happened in the style of a news report…

For the past couple of years some of the MPS staff have completed the Pink Star 5km Walk to raise money for Breast Cancer. It is a really fun event, a good chance to have a walk, catch up, dress up in pink and raise money for such a worthwhile cause.
