Congratulations to this years outstanding recipients, Ben Sinnamon and Declan Su'a.  

In 2013 I had the privilege of traveling to South Africa with the OBHS cricket team. This was an eye opening tour and we experienced the two extremes. From extreme wealth to extreme poverty, they had it all. One thing I will never forget are the slums of Johannesburg. Rubbish lined the streets while the children played football. A swarm of kids ran beside our bus on the way to the ground.

Nathan Hill, Nathan Briggs and Sean Woo gained five prizes for their outstanding work measuring the effect of sedimentation on marine organisms in relation to dredging of the Otago Harbour. This involved the boys getting very wet and cold!

On Tuesday 16 August the annual NumberWorks’nWords O’MAthalon was held at the Lion Foundation Arena for Years 9 and 10. 

Congratulations to Year 11 student Alexander Grant, the 2016 winner of the NEWZATS (NZ Association of Teachers of Singing) Aparima Senior Awards at Marama Hall, Otago University last Sunday.

9T spent their Mathematics lesson this morning finding out for themselves the value of the number pi.

In the recent holidays the library window seats were all reupholstered, and so the new ‘reading only’ area was born in style and comfort! If you’ve ever been lucky enough to visit the library during interval or lunchtimes, you will know what a hive of energy this place is.

Year 13 student Flynn Berkett is attending a Hospitality Course at the Otago Polytechnic.

Congratulations to Olly Higgins and Todd Bezett who have been named in the 2016 Otago Interprovincial Under 20 Mens Rowing Team. Old boys Scott Bezett and Corey Lewis have also been named in this team. Well done boys, good luck for the coming season. 

We are now almost mid way through the third term. The Hostel boys have settled back into hostel life well following the holidays and have been busy with their activities.

I can handle all of the death and murder. I can handle the misshapen, diseased corpses. The one thing that I can't handle about this god forsaken apocalypse is the isolation. With no one I care about left in the world, I spend a lot of time alone with my thoughts and memories. Not a fun time. 

As the Olympics are coming to a close for a majority of our athletes we reflect on the triumphs and losses that we have faced not just as teams but as a nation

The Otago Boys’ High School Parents Association would like to express their gratitude to all the volunteers who turned up on Saturday to help with the cheese roll making. A great fun day was had by all and was a fantastic way to meet the Parents Association and other families in our school community.

Otago Boys' will be taking a group of students on an expedition to Borneo in January of 2018, with World Challenge Expeditions. If you are interested, please contact justin.zani@obhs.school.nz.

Students thinking about further study after they leave school have a lot of decisions to make.

There is only 1 more day to make payment for your sons NCEA fees. 

The team will support potential caregivers to understand and manage the challenges and be there with them, to celebrate successes! Foster carers are trained, approved and receive financial support. You could be just who we are looking for.

As much as possible, could boys and parents please make all medical, (off site) physio, dentist and driving lesson appointments for students out of school time. These one off, but sometimes frequent absences during the year can have a considerable impact on student learning. Your support is appreciated.
