Monday 1st February saw the start of the 2021 school year for all of our new Year 9 students and new students from other year levels.

Welcome to our new staff for 2021.

The Queen’s High School Athletics Championships and House Fun Day will now be held on Wednesday 24 February at the Caledonian Sports Ground.

Congratulations to Jorja Gibbons who competed at the South Island Colgate games over the weekend. She had a great competition with a win in the 4x100m, 2nd in the 80m hurdles, 4th in the 100m, and a 6th in the Long Jump. Jorja has also been named in the Athletics Otago squad for this season.

While most teenagers spent their summer break sleeping in or hanging out with their friends every day, the Queen's rowing crew was waking up at five am to train down at the Harbour, getting prepared for the many regattas being held over the summer.

Last weekend the surfers made the 9 hour trip up to Westport to compete in the second Grom Series event and the Cape Classic.The whole team surfed really well and came away with some fantastic results.

Congratulations to Mikayla Preston (Year 12) who has had three pieces of writing published in the Re-Draft publication. Re-Draft is a nationally acclaimed collection of teenagers' writing, published each year.

Last December, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend a three week Outward Bound Course in Anakiwa. Thrown into a group with 12 strangers, none of us knew the journey that was about to come.

This is a reminder for students and whānau about some of the procedures around the school.

Please remember that when driving in the school grounds there is a 5kph speed limit. Please do not park on the yellow lines or the bus stops; this is becoming a real hazard especially on Surrey Street and compromises the safety of our girls. Slow down around our school to 40kph.
