Gateway students experience industry training one day per week in real workplaces, working on real tasks, trying out real careers. It helps with making career decisions and starting further qualifications while they are still at school

I am registered with MITO and I am completing the Ignition Programme. I do the theory work through an online portal and the practical assessments are completed in the workplace. When complete I will have an Automotive Micro-credential (20 credits) which will count towards a future apprenticeship.

Before I started Gateway this year I wanted to be a mechanic or anything to do with cars or trucks.

Doing the Gateway Programme has given me the opportunity to find out about different careers and to see what it would be like to be a building apprentice.

My plan for taking Gateway was to be able to get out and do building to gain more experience. I have been building for the last few years with a range of different companies during the school holidays.

The BCITO unit standards I do in Gateway count towards an apprenticeship qualification.
