From The Principal July 28

In this Principal’s piece: job opportunity in our administration team, property projects over the holidays, action-packed term ahead, property update and mask-wearing.

Welcome to the new term. As you can see from the attached long-term plans and Team Newsletters, we have an action-packed term ahead of us! Despite the continued disruptions due to sickness and COVID-19, school is returning to ‘normal’ with more opportunities for parents to be actively engaged and contribute to learning.

Carolyn Newman has worked in our school for the past 8 years and will leave us in August. We have been very fortunate to have Carolyn’s expertise and commitment in our school as both a parent and member of staff and we wish her all the very best for the future. Carolyn’s departure does open up a rare opportunity for permanent employment in our awesome Office.

The job advertisement is on our website. It could be two people working 50% each, with assigned duties, or one covering all the position elements. Working in the school your children attend and having holidays off are just two of the unique opportunities this position would provide. Feel free to chat with Sarah or John to find out more.

Over the holidays, we had a number of property projects undertaken. The children are thoroughly enjoying the additional double basketball hoop, and we have put acoustic panels on both the STEM and the food technology rooms which have reduced noise levels considerably. We are also in the process of upgrading our fire alarm system. The board also signed a contract to modernise four of our classrooms (14,15,16,17) and a toilet block upgrade. This work will happen over the Christmas holidays and into term one.

Thank you for everyone's continued support of mask-wearing expectations. It's very interesting to see that the Ministry of Health and Education are now strongly encouraging mask-wearing in all schools. We do see a number of year two students who are choosing to wear masks and we encourage them and other students in year 2 to do the same.

We are finding it very difficult to find relief teachers and I've already needed to cancel programmes to use our internal staffing to cover the classroom. It will be very interesting to see what this term brings.

As previously mentioned we are well into planning for 2023 and thank you to families who have notified us if they are leaving Seatoun School at the end of this year. This helps us considerably with our planning and preparation.
