Silverdale Normal School

Newsletter Week 4, Term 2, 2022

Kia ora e te whānau,

It sure has been a wet and windy term so far! Our learners have managed incredibly well with inside break times and reduced moments to play and run on the fields. It was certainly great to see the sun shine today! Thanks to all our families who have been sending their learners to school with a change of clothes - this really helps in the wet and wintery months.

It is also wonderful that life is feeling more and more normal again. In saying that, as a school we are not being complacent with our health and safety measures around COVID19. All spaces are being monitored (via C02 levels) for adequate ventilation and are all passing with flying colours. Well ventilated spaces are a key feature of preventing the spread of illness. Unfortunately this can mean that, on colder or windy days, our learning environments can feel a bit chiller than normal. Please can you ensure your children are coming to school with a warm jumper or jacket.

The buzz amongst the children has definitely been focussed on the up coming DISCO! There are a couple of students who make a bee-line for me every day to give me an update on the number of sleeps left! It's so great to have this to look forward to. A massive thank you in advance to our PTG and staff team for making this happen.

Winter Sports Day tomorrow is the first time in a VERY long time that we've been able to gather as a Kāhui Ako (Community of Schools) and enjoy sports together. It is a time for learners to try something new in a non-threatening way and maybe discover an interest in a new sport. I'm excited to see the Silverdale Teams representing us so well tomorrow. I am always really proud of the attitude, team work and mahi tahi shown by our school!

A reminder: we really value hearing from our community. Your voice is important to us! If you would like to come in a chat about anything or simply hear about our school's values and direction - please feel free to email me and we'll sort a time for a catch up.
