Whiria te tāngata - 22 March

From Tony

It has been wonderful to see the sun shining this week (unlike this great pic from last week) and long may that last!

Ramadan Mubarak to the many members of our school community who observe this special occasion. For our Muslim students and families, Ramadan is a time of reflection, gratitude, self-discipline and community building.

As a very multicultural school, this is also a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the diversity that exists within our school community, to learn from one another, to share our traditions, and to deepen our understanding of the world around us.

Earlier this month we opened Pūkeko Tahi class and welcomed 14 new learners to our school - 𝙉𝙖𝙪 𝙢𝙖𝙞, 𝙝𝙖𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙞 to the many new students and families.

And finally, I am also pleased to share some images of an exciting addition about to begin at the main entrance to our school. This structure is a Pāwaha which shares the narrative of our school and our connection with Ngāti Wairere. This project has been a long time in the making, and was a “legacy” piece that our Establishment Board first discussed way back in 2019. The project was delayed as the design and installation had been included as part of the proposed expansion of our school. Now that our roll growth has stabilised this expansion project has been postponed or possibly won’t be required at all.

Our current Board has therefore decided to progress the project ourselves. We will share further detail regarding the design and meaning of the Pāwaha in the next newsletter.
