School Athletics and Country High School Athletics. THANK YOU to all our parents who helped us out!
    by Kellie Tagiaia

We had a great day recently for our school Athletics and there was a real buzz around the grounds and some impressive performances. It was amazing to see such fantastic participation and see all our students getting fully involved and doing it for their Houses.

Records broken were:

  • Grant House who broke the U14 and U16 Relay times

U12 Boys

  • Kadin Davis broke the U12 boys 200m time of 31.72seconds previously held by himself. Kaden set a new time of 31.59seconds

U14 Girls

  • Briar Craig broke the U14 girls Triple Jump record of 8.97m previously held by Elie Craig from 2021. Briar set a distance of 9.57m. This was exciting and Zaylee and Briar both broke the record more than once before it ended with Briar.

  • Briar also broke the U14 Javelin record of 22.46m previously held by Elie Craig from 2021. She set a new distance of 27.31m

  • Zaylee Davis broke the U14 Long Jump record of 4.33m previously held by Ashleigh Meyer from 2014. Zaylee set a new distance of 4.65m

U16 Boys

  • Oliver Pankhurst broke the U16 boys Discus record of 33.88m previously held by Kurt Rooney from 2006. Oliver set a new distance of 36.83m

U19 Girls

  • Elie Craig broke the U19 girls Shot put record of 9.55m previously held by Ruby Cochrane from 2013. Elie set a new distance of 10.47m.

  • Erica Lucas broke the U19 girls 100m time of 13.55seconds previously held by herself from 2023. Erica set a new time of 13.02seconds

  • She also broke the U19 Long Jump record of 4.75m previously held by herself from 2023. Erica set a new distance of 4.94m

We would like to sincerely thank all of the parents and that came along and helped us run our sport day! You were all so amazing and made such a massive contribution and helped us so much by being part of the Waimate High School team. We thank you from the bottoms of our heart, you are all superstars!

In addition to our school athletics, this week we had a group of students on Wednesday attend the Country High School meet, which sees students from, Opihi, Twizel, Mackenzie, Geraldine, Waimate all compete against each other. We had some great results throughout the day. A big thank you to Ms Tagiaia, Mrs Bell, Rach Lucas, Renee Davis and Rosalie Batchelor who attended with the students and drove vehicles and helped with events on the day. There were some great results on the day.  When we get these sent through we will share them.
