MUSEUM EXPERIENCE

When I first arrived at the museum, Tracy Swan, the Waimate Museum and Archives Office Co-ordinator was introduced to me by Mrs Donaldson. Moving books into the Machinery Hall, moving chairs into the Douglas School, and sweeping the pavilion floor were the three jobs I completed on the first day of my work experience at the Waimate Museum and Archives. In order to complete the first task, I moved bags and boxes of books into the Machinery Hall. I used a trolley to transport the books there. The museum required additional chairs for the school display, so I helped move some more chairs into the Douglas School for my second task. For my last task, I assisted with sweeping the floor of the pavilion, working alongside Marie, one of the volunteers. I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Marie and we talked about the various bird eggs inside and the horse-drawn carriages. Volunteering at the Waimate Museum and Archives is a great experience and I hope to continue volunteering there.
