Since lockdown, our already disconcerting mental health statistics, have been sadly exacerbated. More and more people are experiencing low to mid level stress symptoms and many more experience significantly debilitating effects of stress and depression. Each newsletter will feature an article from our guidance counsellor on tips, support and techniques to support us through these challenging times.

Academic is an often used word, particularly in the school setting. But what does this word mean and do we have a shared understanding of it?

The Board of Trustees want to hear from you as part of the school's consultation, to help them set the next Strategic plan, and overall future direction for the school.

The junior swimming sports were a great success.

Ms Packham's art classes are a big hit with the students.

Thank you to all the staff, parent volunteers and Tai Poutini Polytechnic students and tutors for making the Junior camp a memorable experience for all. One of the Junior students has written a recount of the event.

On Thursday the 18th of March, Westland High School was lucky enough to see a performance from the Ugly Shakespeare Company at The Regent Theatre.

A few of our students recently received Duke of Edinburgh awards Youth awards.

On Sunday 21st March the Buller West Coast Coast Swimming club held their annual championship meet.

This group is open to all students and is focused on improving the school, community, country and world. Ask one of their members for more information or attend a meeting.

Lets bust some careers myths.

The International Department and the WHS Soroptimist Club have been working together to promote an initiative called the Kiwi Passport being offered by one of our onshore agents, Study Nelson.

If you have ever considered becoming a host to an International student now is the time to contact the WHS International Department to arrange and interview so we are ready to go when the border opens.

The students need your help, with donations of seeds, plants, plant pots.

Through out the year many school groups fundraise to provide extras for the students. The community are an invaluable support with these efforts.

Thank you to Ravensdown for their continued support of our school. Ravensdown have once again donated all fertiliser for our school field. Our school field is used not only but the school but community sports groups too, the fertiliser goes a long way in helping to maintain the field.

We have been notified of a couple of infections diseases currently circulating in the community. Read on for more information.
