we would like to extend a massive congratulations to the Columba College 9A and 10A netball teams that travelled to Christchurch during the first week of the school holidays to compete in the Junior South Island Secondary Schools Netball Champs. Both teams performed with pride, skill, class and grace, and we are extremely proud of their efforts.

In June 2022, the Otago Women's Artistic Gymnastics team was named and included five Columba College students. The representatives were Abrielle Nicol (Step 5), Charlotte Bloxham and Holly Weatherall (Step 6), Zuzanna Kochan (Step 7) and Molly Ballard (Step 10).

In the last week of Term Two, Zoe McElrea and her brother Millar, from John McGlashan College, competed in the Junior Young Farmer of the Year Competition inWhangarei, finishing with a fantastic placing of fourth overall out of fourteen teams at grand final and roughly 200 nationwide.

Congratulations to Zara Glover who won the Under 16 category in the 2022 New Zealand Highland and National Dancing Championships held recently in Palmerston North.

Ella Harris is a professional cyclist from Dunedin who rides for the Women’s WorldTour team Canyon-SRAM. Now based in Europe Ella graduated Columba in 2016 and has her photo on our Wall of Fame in the Marsh Sports Centre.

In light of the doom and gloom permeating Aotearoa in 2022, NZACT (The New Zealand Association of Classics Teachers) decreed that their annual ‘Classics Week’ be extended – in the manner of Roma herself – to a full month, to allow plebs and patricians alike to partake in the festivities – and, by Jove! Did Columba College ever come to the party in NZACT’S first ever month-long celebration of all things ancient.

Columba students are leading the way with New Zealand recognition in both Netball and Touch at Columba College.

Year 12 Biology students finished off the last class of Term 2 with an outing to the University of Otago Physiology Department.

Columba Senior A Badminton Team comes out on top in the local secondary school competition setting the benchmark throughout and delivering a strong performance in the final game.

Over the holidays, three Columba College students represented Otago at the 2022 New Zealand Gymnastics Championships and achieved some outstanding results.

Columba College had a number of students compete in the Otago Short Course Championships held in Dunedin at the beginning of July.

Year 10 Digital Media looks at developing the students creativity and flair in a variety of digital media. The first project was to write, design and produce a children's storybook. Over the next few weeks, we will spotlight each author and the final outcome.
