Room 6 News | Term 1, Week 4

by Fiona McLachlan

Wow! The first four weeks have flown by! We are so lucky to be able to have such an amazing community asset in the swimming pool and we have been making the most of it while the weather has been fine. Our students are currently super busy prepping for the Non-Championship and Championship Swimming events coming up at Dudley Pool.  We will slowly pull back on our swimming programme as the weather cools down but for now please continue to send your child/ren with their togs everyday.

We spent the first few weeks looking into financial mathematics and have had rich conversations around spending and saving our money.  We have learnt about taxes such as income taxes and GST as well as net and gross wages/salary and we explored concepts like afterpay, lay buy, credit/debit cards, kiwisaver and planning for the future.

During our reading time we have been exploring events in New Zealand history and the comprehension follow up work has been high quality.  Our writing has focused on recounts and we are exploring how to make these exciting and engaging. I have discovered very quickly that the students in Room 6 are a bunch of very capable writers!

Belonging Builds Brilliance is our focus this year and in Room 6 this is at the forefront of everything we are doing - we were so excited to announce our school leaders in assembly last week and we are looking forward to all the ideas and innovation they will bring to their roles.
