This is a busy and important term for our learners as they prepare for assessments and the senior derived grade exams at the end of the term. They need to remain committed to their learning and prepare for the tasks ahead.

We are here to support our students and offer tutorials every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime.

Important dates for our ākonga:

Level 3

In Level 3 we have just finished studying the text, The Crucible. Now we will be digging deeper into the text through finding connections to society through a research assessment. Students have also been working on their writing portfolio and prepare to hand in that assessment in this term.

Portfolio milestone: Week 4

Portfolio due date: 24th August

Level 2

In Level 2, we have just begun working on our writing portfolios. Students will be choosing two pieces of writing to craft and submit for the following assessment dates.

Portfolio milestone: 17th August

Portfolio due date: 7th September

Level 1:

Our Level 1 ākonga are working toward the writing assessment. They have the choice between creating a formal or creative piece of writing. Both standards will show on their reports. All work for the assessment will be completed in class.

Milestone: 9th August

Due date: 17th August

Year 10

We have just launched our film study unit. During this time ākonga will learn about many different elements of film and how these all contribute to a completed film. We will watch a film in class and students will write an essay response to one scene of their choosing.

Year 9:

Ākonga have been busy writing and editing an email to whanau that includes what they have been doing and the information about the next assessment. We begin the unit Movie Night this week. The assessment will involve writing an essay in response to the movie.

Milestone: Week 6 (date TBC)

Due date: 1st September

Extension:

This term we will be offering extension opportunities for our ākonga who show strengths in oral and written language. The oral language extension group will be exploring public speaking with the aim of forming a debate club. The writing extension group will look at how to express themselves in a variety of writing styles. This term we will work on taking an idea and refining this with a focus on written accuracy.

Ākonga have been nominated by kaiako to take up this opportunity. They will come out of their timetabled classes once a fortnight. If you feel your child has strengths in writing and/or speaking please contact their class kaiako.
