NZ Clean Up Week with the Halswell Lions

by Geordie Dann

Typically, you wouldn’t think cleaning up a park of rubbish would be particularly fun, but we had heaps of fun cleaning up Hoon Hay Park with the Halswell Lions. There were so many interesting things and treasures we found along the way like half a number plate, a broken chair and a wig. It felt really good to do something good for the community and help out the environment. I think what made it especially enjoyable was the fact that we were all there as a big group so everybody knew each other reasonably well. We also had some really interesting conversations with the Lions. I think at our school, the Environment Committee doesn’t feel like a chore or a commitment because everybody gets on so well and we all share the same interests. I would love it if we could help the Lions out more in the community. They seem like a really nice bunch of people.
