Building and Property Development Update

The latest updates on the Hall and Rooms 19-22 construction projects.

The Hall:

Over the past fortnight we have received a planning update from the Peddlethorp design team for the Hall. At this stage the team is looking to refine the design specifications to better align with what the School, the Weather Tightness team and Ministry are able to afford.

The most recent design images that we received on Wednesday are the ones captured above. As you can see they are quite stunning and it is our hope that all going well, this will be close to our reality in 2025! The Hall is likely to be slightly bigger and significantly better configured than what we had. We are equally hopeful that it won't leak, grow mould or fall apart!

We have also included a short animated video walk through below just for fun.

On a more concerning note is the recent feedback from the government in the media around Capital Works. This means they are taking a look at all building projects in schools across New Zealand and have suggested that they will establish a review committee around this. Our fear being that this could cause building delays and potentially then associated inflation costs. Where we do have some sense of reassurance is that our project was mandated due to Health and Safety issues, accelerated by the MOE office and funding predetermined by the Weather Tightness team.

C Block or the Room 19-22 Build:
Over the last 10 days all wall framing has been replaced and the old roofing iron and gutters have been dismantled. As you can see from the images below and the film footage, the divisions between the spaces will be incredible. A real focus has been on increasing ventilation, light and creating flow between classes.

As this is a 5YA or School Planning Project that has already been initiated, the time lines for completion remain the same. The announcement from Mr Luxon over the last week will have no impact on this.
