Read about our trip to Tūranga.

This art experience suited us so well, because it focused on tuna, (endemic longfin eels). You might remember our earlier learning around tuna, when we went to the Styx Mill Reserve with the scientists and environmental experts, in winter. We have learned a lot about this amazing species this year.
Whaea Piri taught us about Ngāi Tahu taonga and contemporary Māori adornment. As well, she shared some pūrākau, (legends), about the eels. Next, our students created 3D taonga, inspired by these local narratives on tuna.
Before we departed, we admired a display in the library that Piri had made. Then we had a quick look around the library. Highlights included the interactive wall, the internal slide and lego station, the native garden on the balcony and the stunning art work at the entrance. What an asset to Ōtautahi!
