The Junior Awards for Term 3 for Academic Excellence

Recently all senior school throughout the Canterbury and West Coast were given the opportunity to participate in a survey on smoking and vaping.

All NCEA students need to ensure that they can log onto NZQA before Term 4 begins.

My work placement is with New World where I go every Friday afternoon. I mainly work at a checkout where you have to learn to handle money and operate the checkout. You also need social skills and to speak to the customers.

Gateway is a way to get work experience with jobs that interest you. It allows you to learn new things whilst gaining new skills. Starting gateway really helped me as it has found me something I really enjoy and I want to carry on with in the future.

Next year I am hoping to have a gap year then plan on going to the New Zealand School of Tourism to study Level 4 Tourism, Airline and Flight Attending.

I researched a lot of career paths including, baker, real estate agent and receptionist.

Before starting Gateway this year I knew I wanted to look at a job with a farming background after working on a farm over the summer break. I also wanted to look at other jobs that work with farmers everyday.

Before entering Gateway this year I was unsure if it was the path for me but after talking to my friends that did it last year I was convinced that it would be beneficial for my future.

My thoughts before starting Gateway this year were many and varied. There were many things I wanted to do, for example engineering, tanker driving and many other cool out of the box things.
