Cross Country
On Thursday, 14 August we held our annual Cross Country event. The students have been training all term to prepare for the event. Training our cardiovascular system is a great way to keep our tinana (body) healthy.
Visit this articleKia ora e te whānau,
Looking through this week's newsletter, I am reminded about what a great place Silverdale is. We really value giving out learners a wide range of experiences and opportunities - we think this is so important in helping the holistic growth of our learners. I want to say three MASSIVE thank yous...
Our whānau and community - thanks for volunteering to be involved. From offering transport, taking groups, offering to supervise or even in just being quick in returning permission and information forms to aid in our organisation. We couldn't offer what we do without you.
Our staff team - we are so lucky to have a team of people dedicated to giving our students new and interesting activities / experiences. The organisation can be quite intense - but you do it well, prioritising health and safety so we can make the most of these experiences. Thanks for helping expand our students' worlds.
Our courageous learners - thank you for being willing to give things a go and make the most of opportunities offered to you. You are forming life-long memories and learning skills that will be so useful in your futures! I am very proud of you.
Normal and Model Schools Association Conference
Last week, Nic Wilson and I spent several days up in Auckland taking part in our annual Normal School conference. This is a time where normal school leadership from all over the country gather and discuss ways to continue to grow and improve our initial teacher education pathways. We feel proud to be partnering with the University of Waikato and helping to grow skilled, new teachers. Silverdale is not only an awesome place for our students - but also for our student teachers! We received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from student teachers who work in our school. They really FEEL our values in action and gain a lot from seeing our expert teachers modelling best practice.
I hope you all have a restful weekend ahead.
Nga mihi nui,
Michael Harrop
Principal
