120 students, 9 tutors, awesome teacher and parent support all came together last week in what proved to be Tahuna Normal Intermediates finest evening.

Each year we organise a rafting trip on the Taieri River. A big group of students and parents take part in really fun outdoor experience.

An opportunity exists for a business to work together with us to get a Tahuna App developed for 2016. As we have invested in our electronic newsletter we are also looking to introduce an App to keep students and parents informed. 

It is always good to end a busy term with a fantastic school wide event and this week our annual athletic sports was one. Although the wind was cool, the conditions were dry and sunny and Tahuna students, organised in their house groups, competed with great enthusiasm and determination. 

A big night, a big crowd, some final words of advice from our Principal to the teams and we were underway for 100 questions on current events during 2015. 

Beaten 5-1 last time when they played John McGlashan, Tahuna A pulled off a meritorious win in the Dunedin Interschool Badminton Final!

It might be Greek and Roman to you and me but not to these lads at the Otago Interschool Classics Competition, 2015!

These holidays a group of boys are representing Otago in various tournaments. They have been training really hard in the lead up.

Our extension scientists continue to collect water quality data at Tomahawk. As always we are under the expert guidance of Mr Andrew Innes from Healthy Harbour Watchers. Next term we will be holding our annual 'Bug Hunt' which focuses on surveying macroinvertebrates in the lagoon. 

The tanks were full, the tires were pumped and the vans were loaded. Room Eleven were ready for their journey up the rough rocks and into the misty caves. 

It was a bit on the cooler side for our annual athletics day. However, it certainly didn't dampen the enthusiasm and effort from the students.

It's hard to believe that the holidays are looming and our Year 7 students are heading into the final term of their first year at Tahuna.  It's been a busy year and will continue to be that way in Term 4.

Our three performing  cultural groups were a real credit to Tahuna at Polyfest this year.

Over the term, members of this elective got to experience snippets of both cultures, including Petanque and a scrumptious combo on the final day.

Pineapple Track and Ross Creek

Each week students meet in groups and produce  inspirational writing.  Aaron shares a piece about the loss of his cat, and Josh writes about moving to New Zealand. 

Last week Charlotte Underwood-Nicol and Madi Wills competed in the AIMS Games in Tauranga. They also became celebrities in the process!

On Friday the 18th of September, five Tahuna Aerobics girls flew up to Wellington for the 2015 NZCAF Aerobics Nationals. The team includes Amaya Leslie, Nelia McDowall, Jessica Scott, Ali Bloem and Ruby Cameron. We all qualified for our own individual routines at Regionals about a month ago. 

Laura Henderson recently competed in the South Island Champs.

Success in the Youth Art Awards - Claudia Tate 1st prize in the age group 11-13 years and Tahuna Normal Intermediate was awarded Best School.

Keiran Read, Ben Smith and Ben Franks are put through their paces by Abby Clayton and Matt Clarkson before heading to the Rugby World Cup.

Paris made this fabulous thank-you gift on behalf of her class for their student teacher.

On Friday, Highlander and ITM Cup Captain Liam Coltman along with Jayden Spence, a former Tahuna staff member, took on the Table Tennis sports group.

Bring on the summer sun

Our Year 8 students have been discussing the properties of plywood, then designing and crafting creations based primarily on plywood. The Year 7 students are getting an introduction to carving pictures using a Vee Chisel and then carving a mould and heat pressing acrylic coasters.

Joshua Tuiavii competed in the NZ Modern School of Music Otago/Southland competition on the 5/9/15. He received a gold medal, silver medal and a trophy for drumming in the 13 years and over category.
