Kia ora e te whānau ... despite the cold and wet wintery weather over the last few weeks, it hasn’t deterred our students from getting out and getting involved - this Newsletter highlights some of their achievements, activities and antics!

Enrolments for students new to UHC in 2024, especially Year 9 students, are now open.

It is with great pride that we can celebrate a National Champion in running, a NZ Men's Development team Floorball player and a number of Wellington Rugby and Rugby League representatives. Director of Sport Chris Campbell runs through the exciting successes.

Starry Night was a night to remember. With clouds on the table and balloons in the sky, 2023 Upper Hutt College Ball did not disappoint. Year 13 student Flora Tang and teacher in charge of the Ball, Melissa Sudfeldt, run through the evening.

Hundreds of students have been involved in the 2023 UHC Week enjoying various events and competitions including lip sync battles, house drama competition, talent quest and the opportunity to enjoy food trucks.

Fourteen UHC intrepid adventure racers set out for the Get 2 Go Adventure Racing Regional competition. Chauffeured by Miss MacTaggart and Mr Jaffrey, the day would see our two teams travelling to four locations around Wellington and the Hutt Valley, completing challenges and earning points as a team.

We are currently mid-way through Term 3, and although there is a fair portion of the term still to go, UHC has a lot to celebrate. From teams in finals to students being crowned national champions (see other article), we have seen a lot! Head of Sport Chris Campbell runs us through the action.

Seventeen students from Tezukayama Gakuin in Japan came to Upper Hutt College. 9CE's Mekayla Sinclair tells about their successful trip.

Year 10 student, Keira Williams, has made the most of the Women's Football World Cup being played in Wellington as a ball girl for multiple matches. This is her account of the once in a lifetime experience.

Tramping from Mt Holdsworth to Kaitoke, Year 13 Adventure students were put to the test. Student Jayden Duff runs us through the challenging trip.

UHC's top chess team made up of Anjola Sigbeku, Cazna Campbell, Matthew Campbell and Edison Yang, recently finished second at the Wellington Regional Interschool Chess Tournament. Their success means they qualify for the National Tournament in Auckland. Year 13 student Anjola Sigbeku runs us through their success.

Year 12 student Caitlin Holmes has worked super hard this season to achieve her Intermediate Umpiring Badge for Netball. Our Sports Department's Shelley Shaw runs through Caitlin's success.

Year 12 Student Shae Hewitt had a number of challenges which meant she could not complete her Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award with others earlier. However with great team spirit and determination, accompanied by friends and dedicated teachers, Shae finally gained her Silver Award. This is her first hand account.

Year 11 History students have been revisiting the infamous 1981 Springbok Tour and recently spent time visiting the Royal Police College Museum.

Ms Higgins and three budding Year 11 Geographers (Isabelle Radcliffe, Olivia Trevean and Katie Travis) have finished third at the annual Maatangi Whenua Geography Quiz at Victoria University.

At the end of July Netsafe held their annual Netsafety Week. They have created some valuable resources and tools that families can view - links can be found below to webinar recordings. This informationis brought to us by the Netsafe team.

9NV's Chloe Tame has won the Kiwi Skate girls' competition in Auckland. Her Ako teacher, Alyssa Nava, interviews Chloe about her success and passion for figure skating.

Hours of hard work have paid off for 9JM's Hazel Passmore. After successfully competing at the Nationals in July, she is now set to compete internationally in Australia.

This term all Year 9 and 10 girls participate in a one-day course by Kickstart called ‘Embrace’. We started off our session with a couple of name games and teambuilding exercises before we began our first lesson. 9BW's Dannika Watt explains what happened.

The UHC Polygroup recently attended the Multicultural Festival at Expressions.

The Capital Dental Mobile Clinic is excited to announce that we will be arriving at Upper Hutt College for the first time later this year. We will be providing free basic dental care under the Ministry of Health Service Agreement for school students below 18 years of age.

Queen Street Pharmacy is providing Minor Ailments, an After Hours Clinic and Vaccinations this winter to protect you and your whānau.

The Wellington Brick Show, Wellington’s largest Lego Show, is coming to the Hutt Valley.

The Pinehaven Tennis Club are holding a “Love Tennis” promotion on 10 Sep.

Enrolments are now open for the following Outward Bound courses for secondary school students with physical disabilities. These courses run once a year in January and April.
