Registrations are now open for this year's Girls with Hi-Vis

by Cathy Shearer

It’s that time of year when companies from some of New Zealand’s most critical industries open their doors to co-host a Girls with Hi-Vis (GWHV) event.

GWHV runs across the country throughout May and June and gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, hear from inspirational women, and learn about career opportunities in infrastructure.

This year's GWHV promises to be our busiest yet with over 35 events happening across the motu. This includes building, construction and specialist trades featured events where GWHV is partnering with BCITO and EarnLearn.

Information about the events in your region is available here: https://www.connexis.org.nz/girls-with-hi-vis/

Registrations close on 1 April 2024 for May events, and 29 April for June events.

ESOL Team: Practicing Social & Language Learning in the Community

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Class took another step of learning by visiting the Waimate Town Cafe and confidently practice interpersonal & communication skills in real life setting.

Waimate High School is proud to have its growing ESOL group - students from various countries namely Philippines, Nepal, South Africa and Fiji embracing cultural awareness and diversity.

This week, we started going out in the community to experience practical scenarios ordering in a cafe using the language skills we've learned in class.

This term, we aim to expose our group to various learning experiences such as visiting other schools showcasing our culture, conducting activities for our younger tamariki, creating meaningful relationships with others and cultivating leadership skills in the community.

Kia kaha tamariki ma!
