Mā te mahi tahi tātou ka eke - Through working together we make things happen.

Mā te mahi tahi tātou ka eke - Through working together we make things happen. This was the kōrero that the principals of our Kāhui Ako schools had with mana whenua this week as part of our partnership to support outcomes for our young people. It is a simple phrase, but carries with it many important concepts - unity, whānau connection, students and teachers working together, and the benefit which that brings to everyone involved.

One great example of this were the accomplishments of our athletics team who, for the ninth year in a row, took home the much coveted McEvedy Shield. The day itself always showcases the passionate students of the four competing schools, and we acknowledge the hard mahi of St Pats Stream, St Pats Town, Rongotai, and our athletes and coaches who collectively demonstrate, yet again, such a high calibre of sportsmanship and athletic talent.

A few days later and our senior Māori students welcomed our Year 9 - 11 Māori students onto Wainuiomata Marae for our Tū Tamatoa noho. This memorable and formative experience was filled with high energy as students were mentored through various activities. These included whakawhanaungatanga, Māori peforming arts, and goal setting for the group who work together to uplift and strengthen kaupapa Māori at Wellington College. Great leadership in action.

Overarching our week has been a celebration of culture and language through Languages Week. At assembly we welcomed 25 students onto the stage to introduce themselves in their home language. This highlighted how lucky we are to have so many students who contribute to the rich cultural diversity of our school.

And lastly, as I write this on International Women's Day, we want to take a moment to recognise and appreciate the amazing women who are part of our school community. From teachers to staff members, counselors to coaches, these women play an important role in the daily life of our boys' education. Their hard work, dedication, and expertise contribute significantly to creating a positive and supportive learning environment for our students. As we celebrate International Women's Day, let's express our gratitude to these wonderful individuals for their valuable contributions to our school community. Thank you for all that you do!
