Year 5/6's Passport to Magic & Adventure!

Come on a delightful journey with us as we share with you our novel study experiences so far...
Room 14/15 Novel Studies  by Katherine Wilson

This term for Reading, each Year 5/6 student selected a novel to unpack and explore. These are some of our choices...

Artemis Fowl "is a story about a teenage boy with insane digital skills. He goes on a quest to find fairy gold and bring his two-faced family back to riches. But, he starts to doubt this journey when he runs into Captain Holly Short. Will he be able to succeed?

I love reading this story and at the moment I’m working on a mini fairy book for one of my follow ups! Eoin Colfer (The Author) really outdid himself this time!" - Senara

Artemis Fowl "is the story of a tense quest - the main character must restore his family’s fortune... but in his own fashion. He must decipher the cryptic code of the ‘People’. Can he restore the fortune whilst still staying under the cover of safety?

I have enjoyed creating one of my follow-up activities which was to make a mini fairy book inspired from this novel." - Alisdair

Kensuke's Kingdom Sail Boats — Image by: Katherine Wilson

Kensuke’s Kingdom - "This story is about a family and their dog, who go on a journey across the sea in a sailboat. Everything starts off well until they crash, leaving the boy and his dog stranded.

After reading the first few chapters, I made a sailboat out of paper, just like the one in the story." - Liam M

Alex Rider Bikes! — Image by: Katherine Wilson

Alex Rider - "This story is about a kid who lives with his uncle. But somehow Alex’s Uncle Ian got killed in his own car. Alex found it very interesting, because at the funeral for his uncle he saw two men holding guns really close to Alex, and plus someone even went into Alex’s house because his uncle’s things were all gone! As he was wondering he decided to go out. When he was on the way back at school he saw a familiar car. He knew it was his uncle’s car because it was very long and it was black plus Alex recognised the number plate too. Will Alex Rider finish his task?

Our activity this week was to draw or build the bullet proof car." - Vivienne

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe

"This story is about a group of siblings that were sent to a professor’s house in England. When they were exploring the house, the youngest sibling, Lucy, finds a wardrobe that leads to a snowy land called Narnia. A few days after coming back to the house, the other siblings also find Narnia and find that Narnia is in danger by an evil witch. Will they manage to save Narnia, and bring Narnia back to peace, or will they fail miserably?

One of the activities our group is working on is the diorama of the wardrobe that leads to Narnia." - Eva

"Lucy finds a wardrobe in an empty room and wanders in. She then finds herself in Narnia, a land in which it is always winter but never Christmas. She follows a faun named Mr Tummins into a cave and soon finds out about the White Witch. She runs home to tell the others but they don’t believe her. When they play a game of hide and seek Lucy goes back into the wardrobe. Later, her brother, Edmund, goes in to find her and ends up making friends with the White Witch..." - Rory
