What an exciting time of the year this is with so many events going on... Summer sport starting up… being able to go skiing and surfing on the same day, it is great to feel alive and be thankful for the special part of the world we live in.

The process to compile class lists for 2018 is about to start. As I am sure you will understand, this is not a simple process. However, our aim is to develop classes and teams that promote high standards of teaching and learning at Mt Pleasant School.

This is one of the interesting facts we discovered when Janet from Willowbank shared with us her knowledge about kiwis and tuataras. 

Room 2 is investigating habitats. We went on a bug hunt on the school grounds. We are learning that habitats have food, water and shelter and have somewhere to protect the animals from predators. 

We have been having lots of fun in Basecamp learning all about different materials and states of matter. We have talked about solids, liquids and gasses and have been experimenting with different ways that we can change matter.

We have just kicked off a new unit of inquiry, and were lucky enough to have Janet from Willowbank visit us last Thursday. Janet shared a lot of information with us about the Kiwi and how important it is for it to be protected. We got to feel real kiwi feathers and see the predators that harm them.

Mt Pleasant Schools were able to participate in a free fun workshop to prepare for the Ephemeral City Event that was part of the Christchurch City Arts' Festival. 

Following on from their successful performance at the Aupaki Cultural Festival at Sumner School in early August, our group were invited to perform for the Mt Pleasant Kindy tamariki.

It's Spring Cleaning time and we would love to hear from you!

Who knew that there were so many different loaf flavours? They were all on display at Baking Club this week. Lemon, banana, ginger and walnuts were all very popular ingredients. Congratulations to our winners: Sophie C, Holly R, Rosie R and Zoe P.

This week's challenge was to bake a gift for someone in our school community. Last week each baker pulled a name out of a hat and went home to bake something amazing for their special person!

If you have a Nespresso machine that uses the pods, could you please save them for Room One? If possible, cleaned out ( push through the mesh part and rinse out the coffee). But if you don't have time for that, feel free to chuck them in a sealed bag and drop them into Room One.

In the last weekend of October, the Mt Pleasant Community Centre is set to be transformed into an Art Gallery for our Annual Art Exhibition. This is a major fundraiser for Mt Pleasant School & we need your help!!
