To celebrate the Rio 2016 Olympic games and the learning students have been doing around this, we will hold our own version of the Olympics at Oaklands.

Due to our teacher only day on Monday 15 August we will miss our full school assembly.  On Monday 22 August we will have a special  full school assembly to give out our CARE certificates  and there will not be any team assemblies that week.

To be presented at a special CARE assembly on Monday August 22nd at 2pm.

As part of the Year 8 fundraising effort for their trip to Wellington, we will be holding a Bacon Fundraiser this term.

Tui gardening has very generously given us a bird feeder and a bag of bird seed.

In Term 2 15 students sat the ICAS Science exam and the results have been received.  Students who sat the exam at Oaklands were ranked against students from around NZ and the Pacific region.

In the last week of Term 2 a small group of Year 4 - 6 boys had the opportunity to work with Greg O'Connell, a published poet and tutor from the Christchurch School of Writing.  They spent 2 days developing their skills as writers.

We would like to invite all parents/ caregivers to our Oaklands School Quiz Night. Tickets are now on sale from the Oaklands School office. Tickets are $10 per person and teams of 6 are needed. BYO beer and wine. Fantastic raffles available at the door, food and non-alcoholic drinks will be sold on the night. Doors open at 6:30pm and the Quiz starts at 7pm. We would love to see you there.  All proceeds go towards the Year 8 trip to Wellington.

Our goal is that all learners graduating from Oaklands School will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that they will need to be successful life-long learners.

The annual Primary Sports Canterbury inter-school aerobics and dance (hip hop) competition is being held at Elmwood School on Wednesday 31st August.

In Science, the Year 7/8s have been learning about the water cycle and how it applies to Canterbury's waterways. 

The basketball draw for all Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday teams is available on the Oaklands Sports blog.

Week 3 is Peace Week at Oaklands School and across the country and we are pleased to be involved.

Who is winning this week?

Halswell community engagement on proposed new primary education provision The Ministry of Education are working on plans for future primary provision in the Halswell area, and would like your input. The consultation has 2 phases. Phase one starts on 16 August with face to face public workshops. Phase 2 is an online survey open from 12-30 September. Dates for your diary.

Any child leaving or arriving at school between 9am and 3pm must be signed out at the office.

With the large number of students unwell it is really important that you let the office know if your child will not be at school.

In Terms 1 and 4, all students must wear a hat when they are outdoors.

The purpose of our complaints policy is to provide clear guidelines for the school community in raising and resolving concerns and complaints.

Please respect our NO GO zones and times and be considerate of other students and their families.
