Term 4 Week 9

Marimba Group

Congratulations to the Ōtūmoetai Intermediate School Marimba Group, our first ever Marimba Group, on their recent performance.
by Otumoetai Intermediate Communications

The Marimba Group are a group of enthusiastic musicans and together learnt a collection of songs for 2023 ONZA Marimba Festival at the Tauranga Farmers Market last weekend. Along with six other local schools, they learnt and memorized ten songs that told stories about the wind.

Everyone at the festival was amazed by how well over 70 students played together. The whole event super fun! It was like a big music party where everyone got to play and hear the coolest music on the coolest instruments.

A huge thank you to the many supporters who came and cheered us on for the event.

Room 8 Topography Trip

Room 8 were lucky enough to head down to the local gem, Fergusson Park on Monday of Week 6.

The sun was out, the wind was flying around, seagulls swooping, and -although a little windswept by the end of the day-a great day was had by all. The challenge on the day was to use a topographical map to create a replica of the Matua Peninsula and part of the Ōtūmoetai area.

The students had a great time linking the map to their local knowledge, and creating the models in the sand. Outstanding examples were made on the day.

Huge thanks to our parent help, Jihye Lee, and Mrs McPike.
