When Matariki rises it is a sign that the colder days are drawing to a close and the earth will soon warm up for planting. It is the new year. It is a time of celebration. And at Riccarton High School, we celebrated. 

Kia Ora Koutou. Term 2 is certainly flying by and as we find ourselves passing the mid-way point, we also find ourselves fully committed not only to a winter sports programme involving huge numbers of students, but also heavy involvement in a number of other events around the school. 

The Level 3 Food and Nutrition recently conducted a survey for the Year 9 and 13 students to analyse their breakfast habits. 

Joshua Daglish's passion for astronomy resulted in a once in a lifetime opportunity. He writes about the RASNZ conference he attended recently.

The Library is open every day and also throughout the upcoming winter school holidays. Yes they are not too far away.

Winter has definitely arrived, which means the international ski and snowboarding club is now up and running again.

There are two Have a Go Days at Ara this year where students in Years 12 and 13 who are considering a tertiary course there can try out activities, see the facilities, and talk to tutors.

Senior Prelim Exams and Tutorials will be held from Friday 12th to Friday 19th of August – from the end of Week 3, Term 3.

We have a duty of care to the people who learn and work in our school.

On Thursday afternoons students travel around the Christchurch area using the buses. We have visited a lot of different places this term.

On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings all the students are involved in an exercise programme to improve their physical fitness and ball skills. 

Riccarton High School owns our camp – Kokiri Lodge – just outside of Greymouth. 

Exam fees, which are due to be paid by 18 August 2017, have been added to each Year 11, 12 and 13 students' account. 

John Parsons, NZ cyber security expert, will be holding a presentation at Avonhead Baptist Church, on the dangers and issues associated with the use of computers.

There has been an increase in winter sports teams this year and help is desperately required to coach and/or transport students to and from their sporting events.
