Kia ora e te whānau,
There is a slight feeling of deja vu at school today as we recommence our Alert Level 2 procedures. Although we were hoping to avoid this situation, we are feeling very prepared to adjust our school processes to move to the various alert levels - should we need to. At this stage we are only sure these will be in place till Friday - but we will be in touch with more information as it comes to light.
As usual, the wellbeing of our community is at the forefront of our minds. We acknowledge that there are stressors and situations that are outside of our control that can be impacting on our feelings of wellbeing - both children and caregivers. We want school to feel as safe and “normal” as possible. The good news is, as we spent so much time last term at Alert Level 2, all our safe hygiene practices feel very familiar and normal to our students and staff. We have all been here before and feel very comfortable with the additional processes.
We have been asked by the Ministry of Health to display the NZ COVID Tracer QR codes and encourage our communities to scan in when they visit. I know some of you have been trying to do this, but a couple of our signs have become a little water logged! We'll be replacing them all so signing in should be working again. We'll have QR codes at each of our main gate entries as well as at the office doors.
Thank you for your continued support as we navigate our new normal.
In other news....
This week is Maths Week! Classes have all been taking part in challenges and engaging maths related learning this week. Learners have been incorporating maths into art, making up and playing new maths games and learning how to count in new languages. Mr Taylor (our maths whizz!) has even posted daily maths challenges for the staff to do. There have been many interesting mathematical problem solving conversations in the staff room this week - we are all learners!
Have you been having interesting conversations at home with your children after their learning as part of Navigating the Journey? We certainly have at my house! I was told all about peer pressure the other day and why I need to be strong in my own beliefs and not just go with the crowd - very cool stuff! It is our hope that through the Navigating the Journey work, a dialogue is started at both home and school. Conversations where we can talk openly, maybe challenge some thinking and ideas, and families have a chance to share their beliefs and values with their children. Teachers have been sending out up-coming topics via seesaw so you're informed of what will be happening next. If you'd like to talk further about the programme, please feel free to email your child's teacher. Email addresses can be found by clicking the Staff tab at the top of this page.
We welcome your thoughts and feedback! If you would like to make an appointment with any of the leadership team or staff, please get in touch with the school office to make an appointment.
