Newsletter Week 8, Term 3, 2021

Kia ora e te whānau,

Nau mai haere mai ki te wiki o te reo Māori!

How awesome to be back on site together now that we are at Alert Level 2! Having had experience in school at this level before has really made a difference in lowering anxiety for our returning students. Learners are excitedly coming through the gates every morning and have adjusted to our increased hygiene and personal safety measures with ease. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank some people for their amazing efforts over this most recent lockdown.

Thanks to our wonderful parents, caregivers, grandparents, older siblings and whānau who supported our children at home. Thank you for balancing running a household, looking after your family, working from home, and sorting home learning.

Thank you to our incredible learners who showed resilience through yet another lockdown, made a difference by helping around the home, spent time with their family, stayed connected with classmates and teacher and made the most of any learning opportunities.

Thank you to our amazing staff who worked throughout all alert levels, connecting with students and their families, creating opportunities for home learning and supporting our families and each other.

This has really been a team effort - and a good one at that. Seeing how happy our community has come back is testament to how hard you have all worked and the priority we placed on wellbeing through this time.

It is a disappointment that with Alert Level 2 restrictions, many of our school events still need to be postponed, changed or cancelled. This is to reduce any risk to our school family and to operate in line with Ministry of Education guidance. Where ever possible we need to reduce numbers on site and so we are asking our parents and community not to come on site unless it is completely necessary - then follow our process of signing in, wearing face covering and keeping a distance from others. It also means we won't be in a position to have events where we invite families on site to watch or attend (fun run / school discos etc) until Alert Level 1.

I also wanted to inform you that we have decided to cancel our scheduled teacher only day we had booked in for the last day of term (1/10/2021). We know that balancing your family situation through lockdown has been complex at times and many of you are just going back to work now at Level 2 - having a teacher only day this early on after lockdown does not seem appropriate.

As always our community has been hugely understanding and supportive of our changes and restrictions. If you do have any questions - please don't hesitate to get in touch with me by phoning through to the school office.

Noho ora mai,

Michael Harrop

Principal

The Term has Started Back Again with Rain + Dirt = More Mud!

by Priscilla Thatcher

Although we do our best to keep areas blocked off when particularly muddy, there are times when getting wet or a bit dirty or having an accidental slip, still happens; particularly if we are out doing class physical education or fitness!
